Acclaimed by the New York Times for her "meditative" playing, Katie Reimer is a New York City based concert pianist with broad interests as both a soloist and collaborative musician. She has performed in numerous venues in California, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, New York, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, North Carolina, Texas, Vermont, and Wisconsin, and has appeared internationally in Austria (Vienna), Lithuania (Kaunas), and Sweden (Stockholm). Her solo and chamber appearances in New York City include Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall at the Kaufman Center, Miller Theatre at Columbia University, Symphony Space, the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, Klavierhaus, Tenri Cultural Institute, and Le Poisson Rouge. She has appeared as both a soloist and collaborative musician in two leading Boston venues, Jordan Hall and Symphony Hall.
Katie Reimer was engaged by Sono Luminus for her first commercial recording, featuring solo and chamber music by Mohammed Fairouz, a composer she has championed for over 8 years. In addition to being the pianist on the disc, Reimer is the Executive Producer, and she engaged artists including the Lydian String Quartet, and James Orleans, double bass player in the Boston Symphony Orchestra. The disc was selected by WQXR's Q2 Music Album of the Week. She curated and performed on a concert in Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall in April, 2011, as a celebration concert for Gunther Schuller's 85th birthday, a performance that was reviewed by the New York Times. Reimer has been invited by the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts to perform on their series, and by Malcolm Peyton to perform on his faculty concert in Jordan Hall, alongside the Borromeo String Quartet. She was also invited by Steve Drury to perform at The Stone, by Musicians for Harmony on their series in Merkin Hall, and by the New York City based ensemble, counter)induction to perform at Merkin Concert Hall.
As a collaborative musician, Reimer has engaged and worked with singers such as Jo Ellen Miller (soprano), Elizabeth Reiter (soprano), Marcy Richardson (soprano), Rachel Calloway (mezzo-soprano), Jennifer Beattie (mezzo-soprano), Robert Anthony Mack (tenor), Mischa Bouvier (baritone), Randall Scarlata (baritone), and Dashon Burton (bass-baritone). She has worked with conductors such as Scott Dunn, David Hoose, Bridget Reischl, and John Page. Instrumentalists she has worked with include the Borromeo String Quartet, the Lydian String Quartet, David Fulmer (violin), Michael Katz (cello), James Orleans (double bass), Min Xiao-Fen (Chinese pipa), Michael Couper (saxophone), Taka Kigawa (piano), Maarten Stragier (guitar), Jonathan Engle (flute), and Vasko Dukovski (clarinet).
Katie Reimer has devoted a considerable amount of time to the study and performance of modern music, most recently programming and working with composers such as Thomas Ades, Martin Bresnick, Richard Danielpour, Halim El-Dabh, Mohammed Fairouz, Gabriel Kahane, John Heiss, Malcolm Peyton, Tobias Picker, Gunther Schuller, and Yehudi Wyner. She founded the Mimesis Ensemble in the Fall, 2008, a New York City based ensemble dedicated to works by 20th and 21st century composers. She is the Artistic and Executive Director, as well as pianist of the group. Fostering close relationships with the composers they program, musicians are often coached and/or conducted by the composers themselves. After only three seasons, the ensemble has been invited to perform at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Jordan Hall at the New England Conservatory, Northeastern University, and the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.
Reimer is a passionate educator with a private piano studio in New York City. She was invited to give a lecture and performance in 2010 at the Lawrence Conservatory of Music, as well as the Northeastern Wisconsin Piano Teachers' Association.
Katie Reimer earned a Master of Music degree in Piano Performance from the Boston Conservatory, and a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance from Lawrence University (Magna Cum Laude). She spent a semester in Vienna, Austria, studying piano and German through IES Abroad.
